I.O.I return after 9 years with 2016-recorded track ahead of ‘LOOP’ comeback

I.O.I is signaling their long-awaited return with a song recorded nearly a decade ago.

On May 4 at 6 p.m. KST, I.O.I will release the pre-release track “Goodbye with a Smile (Recorded in 2016) (Prod. Jinyoung)” through major online music platforms.

“Goodbye with a Smile” is an archival track that preserves the members’ voices and emotions as recorded in 2016. Producer Jinyoung, who has maintained a musical connection with the group, participated in the production, adding to the song’s lyrical sentiment.

The lyrics reflect a promise from that time, saying goodbye with a smile while wishing each other well, even in the face of parting. The members’ voices from a decade ago are expected to leave a deep emotional impact on fans.

The release marks the beginning of I.O.I’s comeback momentum. The group will drop their third mini album ‘I.O.I : LOOP’ on May 19 and begin full-scale promotions.

Several members, including Jeon Somi, Chungha, and Yoo Yeonjung, took part in writing and composing tracks on the album, including the title track “Suddenly.” Attention is growing around the musical synergy the members will showcase after evolving individually over the years.

I.O.I will also kick off their Asia tour, ‘2026 I.O.I Concert Tour: LOOP,’ with concerts at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul from May 29 to 31.
