Lim Ji Yeon expresses strong confidence facing IU's drama head-on with new SBS series 'Brave New World'

SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama ‘Brave New World’ is set to go head-to-head in the same time slot against MBC’s ‘Perfect Crown’, which is currently dominating buzz rankings while maintaining double-digit viewership ratings.

Speaking at the production press conference for ‘Brave New World’ held at SBS Mokdong on May 7, Lim Ji Yeon shared her confidence about competing against the rival drama.

“I gave everything I possibly could for this project. At one point, I even thought, ‘Do I really have to go this far?’ I poured out every ounce of my ability. I fully expressed myself and created something freely. I’m extremely confident,” she said.

Following her previous drama ‘Nice to Not Meet You’, Lim Ji Yeon is once again taking on comedy. Since ‘Nice to Not Meet You’ left some viewers wanting more, anticipation is high for another transformation from the actress, who has mainly been known for darker genre productions such as 'The Glory' and 'Lies Hidden in My Garden.'

“Comedy was the reason I chose this project. It was a huge challenge for me. I had been playing dark roles for so long, so I wanted to do something lively and cheerful,” she explained. “I gave my all during filming. The drama starts from evil, but these are villains unlike anything audiences have seen before. I naturally immersed myself in the antagonistic chemistry with Heo Nam Jun.”

Jang Seung Jo, who previously portrayed a brutal villain in ‘As You Stood By’, is once again playing an antagonist.

“I think this role can surpass my previous work. I became greedy,” he said. “This time, the character knows how to restrain himself. He cannot openly laugh off his actions or expressions, and I tried to portray that aspect carefully. It’s the birth of another kind of evil.”

Actress Lee Se Hee takes on the role of a top star in the drama. “I’ve never actually lived as a top celebrity before,” she joked. “I watched countless interviews of actresses. I studied their facial expressions, breathing, and gestures.”

She continued, “There was an audition scene with Lim Ji Yeon, and we created moments that weren’t even in the script. Those scenes ended up being used in the highlight reel. That’s how we worked things out together on set.”

The cast also enthusiastically discussed viewership promises. If the drama surpasses 20% ratings, Kim Min Suk promised to serve as the reporter who asked the question’s manager for two weeks, while Lee Se Hee said she would personally handle makeup. Lim Ji Yeon pledged to host a special event at Gyeongbokgung Palace while wearing a hanbok, with Heo Nam Jun and Jang Seung Jo joining her.

‘Brave New World’ is a romance comedy centered around an unknown actress, played by Lim Ji Yeon (as Shin Seo Ri), who suddenly becomes vicious overnight after being possessed by the spirit of Joseon’s most notorious villainess, and a ruthless chaebol heir, played by Heo Nam Jun (Cha Se Gye), who is described as a monster born from capitalism. The two become entangled in a tense, war-like romance.
