Actor Kim Seon Ho gave a somewhat off-topic response when asked about his feelings on returning to entertainment following his tax controversy.

On the morning of May 6, a press conference for the Coupang Play variety show 'Bonjour Bakery' was held at Community House Masil in Jung District, Seoul. Attendees included actors Kim Hee Ae, Cha Seung Won, Kim Seon Ho, Lee Ki Taek, along with Producer Park Geun Hyung and writer Kim Ran Joo.

'Bonjour Bakery' is a healing baking variety show set in a quiet rural village, centered around Korea’s first senior dessert café. The program follows elderly individuals who understand the “taste of life” and bakery staff who share the “taste of happiness,” offering comfort and warmth through sweet moments. In addition to the main cast, appearances by Dino, Ong Seong Wu, and Lee Joo Bin have also drawn attention.

Earlier this year, Kim Seon Ho became embroiled in allegations suggesting income diversion and possible tax evasion through a family-run one-person agency. At the time, he issued a public apology, stating, “As a preemptive measure to correct my previously inexperienced corporate management, I have returned all past corporate card usage, family salaries, and company vehicles. I am currently proceeding with the process of closing the company.”

The press conference marked his first official public appearance since the controversy. When asked about his mindset regarding the recent controversy, he responded, “This is a program where we both give and receive healing. It’s very meaningful work, so I gave it my all. In order to provide healing to the elderly, we had to approach it with the mindset that they are the main characters. I did my best at every moment.” Rather than offering an additional apology, promise to prevent recurrence, or further clarification, he focused on his approach to the program.

Writer Kim Ran Joo added, “It must have been difficult for the grandmothers to enter this space. When they hesitated, Kim Seon Ho approached them first. Thanks to his consistently greeting them, the barrier was lowered significantly.

Kim Hee Ae also spoke in his defense, saying, “As a viewer, I had a vague impression of him. While he has a gentle image, when it comes to work, he shows charisma and takes on a strong, masculine leadership role.”

'Bonjour Bakery' is set to premiere on May 8 at 4 PM via Coupang Play.
