'To My Beloved Thief' starring Nam Ji Hyun and Moon Sang Min set to premiere January 3
by K-Soul · allkpopA new drama is drawing attention for bringing together what many call an “undefeated combination” in a historical series. KBS2’s upcoming Saturday-Sunday mini-series 'To My Beloved Thief,' starring Nam Ji Hyun and Moon Sang Min, is set to premiere on January 3.
'To My Beloved Thief' tells the story of a woman who, by chance, becomes the greatest thief in the land and a grand prince who hunts her down. When the souls of the two are mysteriously swapped, they end up saving one another—and ultimately protecting the people—in a dangerous yet sweeping romance.
For Nam Ji Hyun, who plays Hong Eun Jo, this marks her return to a historical drama for the first time in eight years, following tvN’s '100 Days My Prince' in 2018. She previously shared her excitement about the project, saying, “It’s been a long time since I’ve done a historical drama, so I feel both excited and nervous, and full of anticipation. The gap ended up being longer than I intended, but I’m happy to return with a good project. This drama is filled with the dedication and sincerity of many people, so I hope viewers will show it lots of interest and love.”
Hong Eun Jo is a character who leads a double life: by day, she works as a medical attendant at Hyeminseo, caring for the sick and weak; by night, she becomes the thief Gildong, breaking into the granaries of corrupt officials. She is warm-hearted and compassionate toward the vulnerable, yet firm and unyielding when facing those in power.
Moon Sang Min takes on the role of Prince Lee Yeol. Blessed with striking looks, natural nobility, sharp intelligence, and exceptional martial arts skills, he possesses a perfectly balanced set of abilities. However, to protect his people, he hides his true self and pretends to be a carefree playboy. Unaware that the thief Gildong is actually the woman he harbors feelings for, Hong Eun Jo, he relentlessly pursues her day and night.
Moon Sang Min previously showcased his historical acting in the 2022 tvN drama Under the 'Queen’s Umbrella,' which recorded peak ratings of 16.9 percent, where he played Prince Seongnam alongside veteran actors including Kim Hye Soo. This time, expectations are higher as he steps forward as the male lead to carry the series.
The pairing of Nam Ji Hyun and Moon Sang Min—both of whom have already left strong impressions through historical dramas—has further fueled anticipation among prospective viewers. Online comments include reactions such as, “Nam Ji Hyun in a sageuk is always a safe bet. I’m really excited,” “She looks like she has great chemistry with Moon Sang Min,” “Just from the teaser, I can tell it’s going to be amazing,” “Counting down to the first episode,” and “I’m already feeling the excitement.”
KBS has previously earned strong viewer support with popular youth historical dramas such as 'Love in the Moonlight' and 'The King’s Affection.' With 'To My Beloved Thief' opening KBS’s drama lineup for the new year, attention is focused on whether it can once again reinforce the network’s reputation as a powerhouse for historical series.
KBS2’s new Saturday-Sunday mini-series 'To My Beloved Thief' will premiere on January 3, 2026, at 9:20 PM.
