Lee Jung Eun, Gong Hyo Jin, Park So Dam, and Lee Yeon lead revenge thriller 'The Journey to Gyeong-ju' set for August release
by TelloWoo · allkpopLee Jung Eun, Gong Hyo Jin, Park So Dam, and Lee Yeon lead the upcoming family revenge film 'The Journey to Gyeong-ju', which has confirmed an August 26 theatrical release. The film mixes raw family drama with the pull of a thriller.
The story follows four women: a mother, Ok-sil (Lee Jung Eun), and her three daughters, Jang-ju (Gong Hyo Jin), Young-ju (Park So Dam), and Dong-ju (Lee Yeon). Eight years after the youngest daughter, Gyeongju, vanished during a school trip and never came home, the family sets out on what they call a 'killing trip'. The journey is not about healing. It is a planned mission of vengeance.
The first poster places the four women inside a yellow van, each carrying a different piece of the plan. Ok-sil holds prayer beads, caught between desperate prayer and hardened resolve. Jang-ju takes the wheel with a watchful gaze as the group's planner. Young-ju tests a disposable camera, an innocent-looking act that reads as part of their alibi. Dong-ju sleeps peacefully, a sharp contrast to the dark purpose of the trip. A red human-shaped silhouette sits between them, a blunt visual clue to what they are hiding.
The second poster shows the four smiling for a commemorative photograph at Gyeongju's historic Donggung and Wolji, dressed in matching 'FAMILY' T-shirts. That picture of unity is a facade built over an eight-year revenge plot, and the tagline makes the point plain: "Travel is an alibi, the purpose is revenge. We kidnapped a murderer." Faint bloodstains on the poster hint at how far these women are willing to go.
Director Kim Mi Jo helms the project after her debut film 'Gull', which drew notice for her distinct style and storytelling. 'The Journey to Gyeong-ju' marks her first step into commercial cinema, and it has already picked up invitations to the Hawaii International Film Festival and the Florence Korean Film Festival. With its ensemble cast and a story built on grief and retribution, the film arrives in theaters on August 26.
