Lee Jung Jae Appointed as New Board Member of Shin Young Kyun Arts and Culture Foundation, “Will Carry On Ahn Sung Ki’s Legacy”
by K-Soul · allkpopLee Jung Jae has been appointed as a new board member of the Shin Young Kyun Arts and Culture Foundation.
On April 24, the foundation announced, “At a recent board meeting, Shin Eon Sik, chairman of JIBS, was elected as the new chairman following the passing of founding chairman Ahn Sung Ki. At the same time, Lee Jung Jae was newly appointed as a board member.”
They added, “With the launch of a new leadership system, we will continue to faithfully carry out our core mission as a public-interest foundation by supporting and nurturing young artists in film and theater—an initiative we have maintained for the past 16 years—without disruption.”
Newly appointed chairman Shin Eon Sik has long participated as a board member and has supported the foundation’s operations through his role as CEO of Hanjoo Holdings Korea. He is regarded as a figure with deep understanding and strong networks across the film and broader cultural arts industries.
Chairman Shin stated, “I will carry on the noble vision of the late chairman Ahn Sung Ki, a towering figure in Korean cinema, by expanding support programs for artists and fostering a healthy arts ecosystem.”
Lee Jung Jae, who was appointed alongside him, shared, “I feel both a strong sense of responsibility and fulfillment in being allowed to honor Ahn Sung Ki’s legacy and contribute to the artist development programs he devoted himself to.”
Lee Jung Jae rose to global stardom through the Netflix series 'Squid Game.' In January, he also paid his respects at Ahn Sung Ki’s funeral, personally carrying his portrait during the final procession.
His appointment is seen as aligning with the foundation’s goals of promoting the globalization of K-culture and fostering young artistic talent.
Going forward, Lee Jung Jae is expected to bring renewed energy to the foundation’s scholarship programs and short film support initiatives, drawing on his extensive on-set experience and global network.
