As the first anniversary of the late Barbie Hsu’s passing (February 2) approaches, an update on her husband, Koo Jun Yup, has been revealed. He is said to still be keeping vigil at her gravesite.

On January 29, a video titled “The End-of-the-Era Love Story: What Took Their Love Away… A Story of Koo Jun Yup and Barbie Hsu That Was More Cinematic Than a Movie” was uploaded to the KBS YouTube channel KBS Secret. The video retraces the couple’s fateful first meeting, their unexpected reunion, and their heartbreaking separation.

According to the video, Koo Jun Yup has halted all activities since his wife’s death and has been visiting her grave daily to honor her memory. In the footage, he is seen spending long hours at the site, wearing a hat pulled low as he sits on a small chair placed in front of the grave. The headstone bears the inscription, “I will love you forever – Jun Jun,” deepening the sense of sorrow.

A citizen who witnessed Koo Jun Yup paying his respects shared, “He placed photos of himself with Barbie Hsu and framed pictures in front of the gravestone. He was also continuously playing videos of her on a tablet and watching them quietly.”

Residents in Taiwan expressed sympathy for his unwavering love and grief. Some said, “He must be going through such a difficult time. I hope he stays strong,” while others noted, “He looked extremely thin. He seems very different from how he looked before.” Previously, Koo Jun Yup had appeared noticeably gaunt after losing approximately 14 kilograms following his wife’s passing, sparking concern among fans.

Barbie Hsu and Koo Jun Yup first met in Taiwan in 1998 and developed a romantic relationship, but parted ways after about a year. More than two decades later, in 2021, they reconnected after Barbie Hsu divorced her former husband. The couple announced their surprise marriage in 2022, marking a long-awaited reunion.

Tragically, just three years into their marriage, Barbie Hsu passed away suddenly in February last year while traveling in Japan, due to complications from influenza accompanied by pneumonia.

To commemorate his late wife, Koo Jun Yup recently personally designed a memorial sculpture in her honor. Taiwanese outlet ET Today reported on January 28 that the sculpture has been completed and will be unveiled on February 2, marking the first anniversary of Barbie Hsu’s death. The memorial has been installed in the renowned Chin Pao San Memorial Park in Taiwan, where she is laid to rest.

The unveiling ceremony is expected to be attended by Barbie Hsu’s younger sister, her mother, Koo Jun Yup, and close colleagues and friends who were dear to her during her lifetime. According to reports, the family wishes for the ceremony to be held quietly and privately.
