Playlist, production company behind 'Weak Hero,' to debut virtual boy group 'WhOLLiN' on September 1
by spjw99 · allkpopPlaylist, the content studio known for hit K-dramas like 'Weak Hero', is stepping into K-pop with its first virtual boy group, WhOLLiN. The five-member group is set to make its official debut on September 1.
On July 15, Playlist unveiled a logo motion teaser and a silhouette illustration showing all five members through its official channels. The first look drew quick interest from fans wanting to know more about the new act.
The group's name carries a double meaning. WhOLLiN stands for 'a being who was with me in all my spaces (Whole) In (In)', and it also plays on the Korean word 'hollin', which means to be captivated or charmed, hinting at the pull the group hopes to have.
Naver's Media Production Studio is handling the 3D character modeling. Naver has become a leader in virtual content through its production hub 'Motion Stage', which runs on high-precision optical motion capture infrastructure and recently formed a strategic partnership with NVIDIA to build out its global AI infrastructure.
Playlist CEO Park Tae Won framed the group as a culmination of the studio's experience, bringing together its track record in crafting youth narratives and building characters through drama, along with its growing work in music and entertainment content. He said he hopes WhOLLiN will connect with fans through a sense of familiar closeness rather than flashy stimulation alone.
Founded in 2017 as a joint venture between Naver Webtoon and Snow, Playlist has built a reputation as a drama powerhouse with web series including the 'Love Playlist' and 'A-TEEN' franchises and the acclaimed 'Weak Hero'. WhOLLiN's debut marks the studio's push into the K-pop industry.
