Girls' Generation’s Sooyoung shared an emotional update about her father’s long-term illness, while also expressing deep gratitude toward her group members for their continued support.

On the May 6 broadcast of tvN’s 'You Quiz on the Block,' Sooyoung appeared with fellow Girls’ Generation members Hyoyeon and Yuri. The episode highlighted both their close friendship and personal stories as members of Girls' Generation.

During the show, Sooyoung spoke about her father, who has been suffering from retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative eye disease that has led to severe vision loss over the past 15 years. “My father is the chairman of an organization working to prevent blindness,” she said. “Whenever there are volunteer or donation opportunities, I usually attend them on my own.”

She then recalled a moment involving Yuri. Yuri once told me, ‘Sooyoung, your father is doing such meaningful work, why didn’t you tell me? You should have told me sooner.’ After that, the members began regularly donating together,” she explained. “It feels like they are sharing the responsibility of my family matters with me.”

Sooyoung also revealed her father’s current condition, saying, “He has had retinitis pigmentosa for about 15 years now, and his vision has almost completely gone.” She added that he has recently begun new research related to the disease. “Even without me saying anything, they naturally understood and said, ‘If there is anything we can help with, let’s do it.’ It feels really comforting to have people like that.”

Yuri also shared her thoughts, saying, “At some point, I started to feel that we should naturally care not only about work, but also about each other’s families and personal lives.” She added that she has also received support from the members in the past. “That support grew over time and became so strong that I feel like I can handle anything with them beside me.”

The episode once again highlighted the long-standing bond and mutual support among the members of Girls' Generation, who have remained close for nearly 20 years.
