After multiple social media controversies, Shinhwa's Kim Dong Wan chooses to work without an agency
by Helena-son · allkpopOn July 4, Shinhwa member and actor Kim Dong Wan announced on his Instagram Threads that he has officially decided to continue his career without joining an entertainment agency. He shared that after much consideration, remaining independent is the best direction for him right now.
This decision follows a series of recent controversies sparked by his careless remarks on social media. In February, he faced heavy criticism for suggesting that prostitution should be acknowledged and managed by the government rather than banned. He also sparked public outrage by showing support for MC Dingdong, who had assaulted a female streamer, and defending ISU of MC the Max, who has a history of sex crimes involving a minor.
Following the intense backlash, Kim apologized, stating, "I was always this kind of person, but I could hide it when I was busy. I reflect on my careless words and actions." In May, he had announced he would step back and let an agency office manage his social media accounts.
