Singer-songwriter HAEPA selected as MelOn Track Zero's June artist, giving support to rookie singers
by K-Soul · allkpopSinger-songwriter HAEPA has been named the June Artist of the Month for Melon's indie music support project, Track Zero.
Melon announced on June 17 that HAEPA was selected as this month's featured artist for the Track Zero initiative and also released a special interview commemorating the artist's latest album.
HAEPA debuted in 2018 through the prestigious Yoo Jae Ha Music Contest and has built a reputation for blending indie music with bossa nova and jazz influences.
The musician recently released a second full-length album, 'Model Citizen.' HAEPA described the project as a "grand joke," explaining that the title was inspired by personal experiences with psychiatric care.
The album is built around the concept of a fictional sitcom. Framed as the original soundtrack (OST) for an imaginary sitcom titled 'Model Citizen,' the record features a total of 10 tracks.
One of the album's central comedic devices is the transition from the opening track, "Model Citizen," directly into "Confession." Another song, "My Very Happy Home," showcases a strong jazz influence.
HAEPA collaborated closely with producer Jo Wol on the project. The pair worked together on everything from demo selection to arrangement and mixing.
"Jo Wol handled the electronic music arrangements, while I worked on the more subdued tracks," HAEPA said.
The artist also experimented with new vocal approaches on the album.
"We agreed to incorporate different vocal styles," HAEPA explained. "This is the album on which I've sung with the most intensity since becoming an adult."
Track Zero is Melon's ongoing project aimed at supporting and promoting indie music. The platform introduces a featured artist and recommended new releases every month.
