Netflix’s 'Boyfriend on Demand' premieres today starring Blackpink’s Jisoo, sparks netizen debate over acting

Jisoo, the BLACKPINK member and actress, makes her highly anticipated Netflix return today with the series 'Boyfriend on Demand.'

The romantic comedy follows webtoon producer Mirae (played by Jisoo), who, exhausted by real life, subscribes to a virtual romance simulation to experience the joys and challenges of love in a dreamlike setting.

The series has generated global attention thanks to Jisoo’s star presence. As her first Netflix project, the combination of a top international idol and the popular K-romantic comedy genre has heightened expectations for the series’ performance worldwide.

Despite excitement surrounding the release, netizens have highlighted recurring concerns about Jisoo’s acting. Viewers note ongoing issues with vocal projection and delivery of the playful, fast-paced dialogue characteristic of romantic comedies. Physical comedy moments, they say, occasionally feel less natural. While Jisoo’s visual charm continues to captivate audiences, some critics argue that it partially compensates for perceived gaps in her performance.

Jisoo also shared her reflections on the role: “Taking on diverse characters allowed me to work closely with the director to show my best performance. Portraying a character close to my own age, I researched ways to perform better. I hope viewers feel the character fits naturally and enjoy the story.”
