Singer and actor Kim Hyun Joong has spoken candidly about his lengthy legal dispute with his former girlfriend.

On February 27,  Kim Hyun Joong appeared as a guest alongside actor Park Hyo Joon on the YouTube channel B-Grade Studio, where the two shared stories.

During the episode, Kim Hyun Joong spoke about their friendship, saying, “He was the only celebrity who visited me during my military service. He also hosted my son’s first birthday party.” Recalling how they became close, he said, “We met in 2013,” while Park Hyo Joon added, “We filmed a drama based on the comic ‘City Conquest’ together.”

However, the project was ultimately canceled. Kim explained, “It was about the two of us conquering the country. We even completed filming in Japan, but it fell through after KBS decided not to schedule it.” Park added, “We filmed for five months and waited a year, only for it to be completely scrapped.”

Kim Hyun Joong also spoke about SS501’s recent activities, saying, “It’s not exactly a comeback. It’s our 20th debut anniversary. All five members didn’t reunite, but three of us formed a group called FIVE O ONE, and things are going well. The album will be released in February 2026.”

During the segment “B-Grade Hearing,” the cast brought up Kim Hyun Joong’s past controversies. Choi Sung Min commented, “If comments are posted here, 100% of them will mention that incident. We can’t just avoid talking about it.

Kim Hyun Joong was previously embroiled in a high-profile dispute with his ex-girlfriend, identified as A, involving pregnancy and assault allegations. After five years of intense legal battles beginning in 2015, the case concluded with partial rulings in Kim’s favor and a fine of 100 million KRW (approx 69,445 USD) imposed on A.

Addressing the controversy, Kim Hyun Joong said, “What is there to be cautious about?” He explained regarding the assault allegation, “Because pushing someone was considered assault, I received a summary fine of 5 million KRW (approx 3,472 USD). I was willing to pay that much. I never expected it to escalate to this extent.”

Cast member Nam Ho Yeon noted that most of the investigation results ended in acquittals and non-prosecution but lamented that many people were unaware of the rulings. Kim responded, “I’m not concerned about that incident.”

When asked further about the case involving his former girlfriend, Kim remarked, “I’ve been to court, but your questions are even sharper than the court’s.” Choi Sung Min also asked about reports that his ex-girlfriend had demanded approximately 1.6 billion KRW (approx 1.1 million USD) in damages.

Kim replied, “I don’t know. My lawyer handled it at the time. It’s been resolved. It took an incredibly long time to be acquitted, and after all that time, I didn’t gain or lose anything.

Kim Hyun Joong debuted in 2005 as a member of SS501. That same year, he began his acting career with the MBC sitcom 'Nonstop 5,' and went on to star in dramas such as 'Boys Over Flowers,' 'Playful Kiss,' 'Inspiring Generation,' and 'When Time Stopped.' He married his first love, a non-celebrity of the same age, in February 2022, and the couple welcomed a son in October of that year.
