Na Hong Jin's 'Hope' surpasses 1 million moviegoers in just 3 days, sets fastest box office record of 2026

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing network, the film reached a cumulative total of 1,003,960 admissions as of 12:00 PM KST on July 17.
The milestone was achieved just three days after its release. 'Hope' reached the 1 million mark one day faster than Yeon Sang Ho's 'Colony,' making it the fastest film released in 2026 to achieve the feat.
'Hope' is a sci-fi thriller that follows the events unfolding in a quiet rural village after the sudden appearance of a mysterious lifeform.
The film marks Na Hong Jin's first feature in nearly a decade since 'The Wailing.' It had already generated significant buzz before its release after being invited to compete in the Competition section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
The movie has been drawing attention for its cinematic scale, featuring relentless chases involving a massive creature and intense action sequences designed for the big screen.
Meanwhile, Hope is scheduled to premiere in North America on September 9.
