Goo Hye Sun returns to ‘Radio Star’ one year after attitude controversy, appears without hat
by Demian09 · allkpopActress Goo Hye Sun is set to make her return to MBC’s popular talk show 'Radio Star,' one year after becoming embroiled in an attitude controversy.
The production team of MBC’s variety program recently released a preview video announcing the upcoming episode featuring Lee Geum Hee, Yum Kyung Hwan, Goo Hye Sun, and Jeon Min Ki.
In line with the special episode themed 'As You Speak, It Comes True,' Goo Hye Sun candidly reflected on achievements she said came true simply by speaking them into existence. “I said I would compose 50 songs. I said I would hold an exhibition. I said I would graduate as the top student,” she shared, adding, “I achieved all of them and even received a top patent award,” drawing applause from the studio.
She also surprised viewers by revealing an unexpected past, saying, “I was actually part of a comedy club,” showcasing her enthusiasm for humor and adding to the lighthearted atmosphere of the show. This appearance marks Goo Hye Sun’s first time on 'Radio Star' since January of last year.
At the time, she faced criticism after appearing on the program wearing a hat, which sparked debate over her on-screen attitude. Goo Hye Sun explained during the broadcast that her home boiler had broken that day, preventing her from washing her hair, and that she had no choice but to keep the hat on despite a suggestion from the production staff to remove it.
Following the episode, some netizens criticized her for proceeding with the recording while wearing the hat, claiming it showed a lack of respect. In response, Goo Hye Sun stated, “Wearing a furry hat due to personal circumstances on a variety show meant to make people laugh is neither a poor attitude nor rudeness. It is my freedom,” while also adding that she appreciated the feedback. That statement was later deleted.
She subsequently addressed the controversy head-on by posting 15 photos of herself wearing various hats, writing, “Hats are my freedom. I might as well share my hat collection,” signaling her refusal to shy away from the criticism.
Meanwhile, Goo Hye Sun has continued to draw attention for her academic achievements. After re-enrolling in Sungkyunkwan University’s Department of Film, Television & Multimedia in 2020, she graduated as the top student. She later gained admission to KAIST Graduate School of Science Journalism in 2024, where she pursued a master’s degree in engineering.
During her master’s program, Goo Hye Sun developed an eco-friendly hair roller, the KOO Roll, which earned her the 'Excellence Patent Award' last year. On January 8, she also announced her early graduation from KAIST, receiving widespread congratulations for her continued accomplishments both inside and outside the entertainment industry.
