Kangin announces music comeback after 7 years since Super Junior
by K-Soul · allkpopFormer Super Junior member Kangin, who stirred major controversy with two DUI incidents and an assault scandal, has broken his long silence and announced his return to the music industry—what many are calling his “last chance.”
Once bowing his head, saying, “I can’t even forgive myself,” Kangin stated he is now picking up the microphone again with a new song dedicated to fans.
On April 6, Kangin posted a video titled "KANGIN's Self-interview" on his YouTube channel. In the video, Kangin appeared slightly nervous as he stood in front of the camera and cautiously shared news of his comeback.
He revealed that the turning point came from support overseas. “Starting with the Philippines this year, I’ll be holding a fan meeting tour,” he said. “Although it’s not fully complete yet, I had the chance to briefly share a song I made directly with fans.”
Ahead of the release of his new track “LOVE IS PAIN,” Kangin confessed, “The encouragement I received on-site gave me the courage to properly share my music.” He added, “I had a lot of concerns, but thinking of the fans who waited for me for so long, I decided to release a digital single.”
Kangin’s past has been far from smooth. After debuting with Super Junior in 2005 and rising to the height of popularity, he became embroiled in controversy, starting with an assault case in 2009, followed by two DUI incidents and other personal scandals. Ultimately, he left the group in 2019.
At the end of the video, Kangin expressed his gratitude to fans, saying, “Being able to sing again and releasing this album are all thanks to you. I will work hard to greet you with a better image moving forward.”
Public reaction, however, remains sharply divided. While some fans are offering support, saying, “After such a long period of reflection, we hope to see sincerity,” others remain critical, questioning, “Isn’t it too easy for someone with repeated DUI offenses to make a comeback?” All eyes are now on whether Kangin can win back public trust through his return to music.
