EXID's Hani shares heartfelt thoughts on returning to acting

EXID member and actress Hani is preparing to return to the small screen for the first time in three years, sharing her thoughts on what inspired her comeback.

On June 16, KBS unveiled photos from the script reading session for its upcoming weekend drama “Love is Coming.” The series marks Hani’s first acting project in three years and her first-ever appearance in a weekend drama.

Hani, whose real name is Ahn Hee Yeon, will play Han Gyu Rim, a side-dish shop employee who shoulders the responsibility of supporting her family. Once raised in a comfortable household, the character finds herself navigating a difficult reality after her family’s sudden downfall, taking on multiple jobs while managing household responsibilities.

Describing her character, Hani said, “She is incredibly strong and full of love. She is the kind of person who naturally makes you want to support her and find comfort in her journey.”

She added that the character’s growth throughout the story played a major role in her decision to take the project.

“As the story progresses, Gyu Rim continues to grow. I was genuinely happy and encouraged by the direction of that growth,” she said. “I felt that I wanted to do my very best for this character, and that gave me the courage to take on this project.”

The drama marks Hani’s return following an extended break from entertainment activities. In 2024, she announced plans to marry psychiatrist Yang Jae Woong, but the wedding was indefinitely postponed following controversy surrounding a patient death case at a medical institution where he served as director. Hani subsequently stepped away from several scheduled activities.

“Love is Coming” tells the story of two people who rebuild broken family relationships and create a warm new beginning together. The cast also includes Ha Seok Jin, Park Yu Na, Bae Jung Nam, Kwon Hae Hyo, Yoon Yoo Sun, Ryu Seung Soo, Jin Kyung, Min Jin Woong, Lee Joo Yeon, Bae Yoon Kyu, and Jung Bo Min.

The family drama is scheduled to premiere on July 25.
