Girl's Day Yura reveals she once gained 8 kg (17 lbs) in 2 months from drinking too much alcohol

Girl's Day member and actress Yura has just revealed the story behind her rapid weight gain and loss while filming 'Marrying the Mafia: Returns' in 2023.

Yura met up with her former co-star Kim Hee Jung to reminisce about their time filming the movie together, in a special new video on Yura's personal YouTube channel. As the two actresses opened a bottle of wine to share together, Yura revealed how she accidentally gained 8 kg (about 17 lbs) while filming 'Marrying the Mafia: Returns' - and the shocking method she used to quickly lose the weight.

Yura said, "Back then, I was drinking almost every day. For about four years, I was about 47 kg (104 lbs) - before filming that movie. But while filming that movie, I gained 8 kg in just two months."

While Kim Hee Jung was surprised to hear how quickly Yura gained the weight, she brought up an important point: "But isn't 56 kg actually still normal for your height?" At Yura's height of 170.3 cm (5 ft 7 in), her weight gain would have put her at around 56 kg (123 lbs).

But Yura emphasized how shocking her weight gain was to her. "It was the first time in my life I reached that weight. I've never gone over 54 kg (119 lbs) before, not even once. But after filming that movie, I had a beer belly for the first time. I hit 56 kg."

Yura drew concern by revealing the method she used to lose weight afterwards: "I really... barely ate anything to lose it. I managed to get back down to 47 kg right away. I didn't drink [alcohol] at all and barely ate, and that's how I lost it."

She also revealed the surprising side effects of her rapid weight loss. "Suddenly, my cheeks just became gaunt. I looked so much older. So, you know, losing weight when you're young is different than losing it when you're older."

Yura concluded that she had decided to reach a more healthy weight after that: "I decided to gain weight again. So I gained back to about 50 kg (110 lbs), and my face looks better now."

Yura and Kim Hung Jee agreed that despite everything, they were glad that drinking together had led to them becoming friends while filming 'Marrying the Mafia: Returns.'
