Broadcaster Park Na Rae has suspended her activities amid allegations of mistreating her manager and claims surrounding illegal medical treatment by a figure known as the so-called “injection aunt.” Against this backdrop, her close friend Jang Do Yeon drew attention by stressing the importance of humility in her award acceptance speech.

At the 2025 MBC Entertainment Awards held on December 29, Jang Do Yeon received the Entertainer of the Year Award. During her speech, she remarked, “I’ve been reading Romance of the Three Kingdoms lately, and it really drives home the point that if you’re not humble, everyone ends up dead,” delivering a pointed and thought-provoking message.

She continued, “In this intimidating entertainment industry, I want to live humbly, just as my father has always told me, so that I can survive to the very end.

Jang Do Yeon is widely known as one of Park Na Rae’s closest friends in the entertainment world. The two endured their unknown years together, and along with Shin Gi Ru and Heo Anna, had been preparing a new MBC variety program titled 'I’m Excited Too (Nadosinna).' However, the project was effectively scrapped following the sudden allegations involving Park Na Rae, including claims of abuse of power and illegal medical practices.

Currently leading flagship MBC variety shows such as 'Adventure by Accident 4' and 'Radio Star,' Jang Do Yeon received the Entertainer of the Year Award for the first time this year and was also named a Grand Prize (Daesang) nominee.

She said modestly, “Thankfully, MBC has given me several awards, but not once have I thought, ‘I truly deserve this.’ Of all days, today feels like the one I’m least deserving of,” adding with a shy smile, “When Yoo Se Yoon mentioned me as a Daesang nominee at the photo zone, I thought it was a new kind of tease.” She went on to say, “I won’t be receiving it anyway, and they won’t be giving it to me either. It just doesn’t make sense,” once again emphasizing her humility.

Jang Do Yeon also reflected on her programs, saying, “Adventure by Accident was filmed with so much hard work, yet I’m just sitting there talking while looking at my notes. With Radio Star, I’m reminded every week how precious and sought-after that seat is, and I often feel I’m not fully living up to it, which leaves me with lingering regret.”

She concluded, “In the new year, I’ll try a bit harder. I believe all of this is luck, but until that luck reaches me, I’ll keep running with everything I have. I hope everyone stays safe and well in the new year.”

Yoo Se Yoon showed his wholehearted support, saying, “I genuinely think she’s more than qualified. Honestly, I didn’t even know Do Yeon was a nominee, but I suddenly felt like it was her turn.” When asked about a potential “Daesang pledge,” Jang Do Yeon joked, “If I win the Grand Prize, I’ll work for MBC for free. The company will be shocked, but I’ll cover all the expenses myself—MBC will be completely unpaid,” drawing laughter from the audience.
