The production team behind the film About Family’ expressed gratitude toward veteran actor Lee Soon Jae (89) for stepping in to replace Oh Young Soo (80), who was removed from the project following allegations of sexual misconduct. During a press conference and media screening held on November 21 at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Seoul, director Yang Woo Suk and cast members Kim Yun Seok, Lee Seung Gi, and Park Soo Young discussed the film and the unexpected casting change.

Oh Young Soo, initially cast as a senior monk, had completed filming for the role before being indicted in November 2022 on charges of sexual misconduct. He was sentenced to eight months in prison with a two-year probation period in his first trial, prompting his removal from the project.

In response, the production team recast the role with Lee Soon Jae and reshot the affected scenes. Director Yang recalled, "When we were brainstorming replacements for the role, everyone unanimously suggested Lee Soon Jae as the ideal candidate. We reached out to him immediately."

He continued, "After reading the script, Lee Soon Jae graciously agreed to join the project within just two days. While Oh Young Soo's departure was unfortunate, Lee’s casting turned out to be a blessing in disguise. He filled the role brilliantly and brought incredible depth to the character.”

‘About Family’ follows the story of Ham Mu Ok (Kim Yoon Seok), the owner of a family-run dumpling restaurant, who struggles with the fact that his son, Ham Moon Seok (Lee Seung Gi), has become a monk, leaving no heir to continue the family line. The plot takes a humorous and heartfelt turn when unexpected grandchildren enter their lives, leading to an unconventional living arrangement. The film is set to premiere on December 11.
