'A Bona-fide Killer' starring Gong Hyo Jin unveils first script reading scene

Actress Gong Hyo Jin is set to portray a woman leading a dangerously double life.

On June 18, MBC unveiled photos from the script reading for its upcoming Friday-Saturday drama 'A Bona-fide Killer' (written by Kim Eun Hee, directed by Yoon Jong Ho). The event was attended by Gong Hyo Jin, Jung Joon Won, Lee Sang Yi, Sung Dong Il, and other cast members.

Based on the webtoon of the same name, 'A Bona-fide Killer' follows a working mother with one of the deadliest jobs in the world as she struggles to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Director Yoon Jong Ho and writer Kim Eun Hee joined the cast for the reading session. Once rehearsals began, the actors fully immersed themselves in their roles, showcasing strong chemistry and teamwork.

Gong Hyo Jin takes on the role of Yoo Bo Na, the head of Sales Team 3 at Durumi Electronics and a sniper known by the codename “Kingfisher.” She seamlessly portrayed both a devoted housewife and a cold, charismatic assassin.

Jung Joon Won plays Kwon Tae Sung, Bo Na’s husband, and a newspaper reporter. He balanced the character’s passion for justice with his affectionate devotion to his wife.

Lee Sang Yi stars as Detective Lee Dong Jin, a lieutenant in the Violent Crimes Unit at the Southern Police Station. Known as the ace of his department, the character refuses to tolerate injustice and brings relentless determination to every case.

Veteran actor Sung Dong Il portrays Kim Bong Pal, the manager of Durumi Electronics’ Sales Team 3 and an expert at disguising murders as accidental deaths. His seasoned performance added depth and authority to the ensemble.

The supporting cast also includes Moo Jin Sung as Ki Young Do, Lee Eun Saem as Kwon Se Ah, and Choi Woo Sung as Beom Sung Hoon. Their distinctive performances further strengthened the team's chemistry and heightened anticipation for the series.

The actors also shared their thoughts on the project. Gong Hyo Jin said, “I hope 'A Bona-fide Killer' becomes a drama that comforts viewers and helps them forget the stresses of the day.”

Jung Joon Won added, “I’ll do my best to contribute to making this a great production. I hope viewers will show it lots of interest.”

Lee Sang Yi expressed excitement about working with the cast, saying, “I’m really looking forward to the chemistry between the actors.”

'A Bona-fide Killer' is scheduled to premiere on July 31 at 9:50 PM KST.
