Min Hee Jin emphasizes “May 18 spirit” during university lecture in Gwangju
by Minsoo-Kim · allkpopMin Hee Jin delivered a special lecture at Chonnam National University in Gwangju, where she spoke about resistance, history, and the importance of protecting artistic values.
On May 12 KST, Min Hee jin addressed students and citizens at the university’s Yongji Hall Convention Center, emphasizing the spirit of the May 18 Democratic Uprising.
She stated, “Change only comes when there is resistance. Even if it doesn’t end in success, resistance itself has great meaning because it delivers a message to the world.”
Speaking about the May 18 movement, she added, “It is a fact and part of history. Some people try to interpret it politically in different ways, but the public must not turn away from this history.”
Min Hee Jin previously gained attention as the head of ADOR, where she launched NewJeans before becoming embroiled in a management dispute with parent company HYBE and later establishing an independent label.
Reflecting on that experience, she said, “I started a label because I wanted to make music. When the fundamentals are strong, that alone can become an industry, and people who focus on the essence will inevitably change the bigger flow.”
She continued, “When the power of capital tries to dominate the realm of creativity, I believed there needed to be at least a minimum line of defense to protect artists.”
The lecture reportedly drew a large crowd of students and local residents, with attendees filling not only the hall but also the surrounding corridors.
