Cha Joo Young draws criticism over seatbelt-free car ride shared on social media

Cha Joo Young has come under criticism after sharing content on social media that appeared to show her violating traffic safety regulations.

On May 27 KST, Cha Joo Young uploaded several photos and videos to her Instagram account along with a heart emoji.

The posts showed the actress enjoying omakase sushi alongside alcoholic drinks. Although she was not seen driving after the meal, controversy arose when viewers noticed she appeared to be sitting in the back seat of a moving vehicle without wearing a seatbelt.

Under South Korean traffic laws, all passengers, including those seated in the back seat, are required to wear seatbelts on all roads nationwide, including within Seoul. The regulation has been fully enforced since September 28, 2018.

As a result, Cha Joo Young’s uploaded content sparked criticism online for seemingly disregarding the safety regulation. Under current law, violations involving adult passengers not wearing seatbelts can result in a fine imposed on the driver.
