Tim Cook bids farewell to Luca Maestri on his last earnings call
by Wesley Hilliard · AppleInsiderApple CFO Luca Maestri has been with Apple since 2013, and his last, incredibly uneventful, earnings call was Thursday's.
We've been hearing Maestri's voice on quarterly earnings calls for over a decade, but he is stepping down from the role. Kevan Parekh is taking over as CFO and will be present at the next quarterly earnings call.
Maestri may not be a keynote presenter or a known personality like other Apple leadership members. In fact, he's effectively spent his entire career at Apple as a relatively unknown entity besides his voice and name — yep, we only have that one photo of him.
Even though Maestri hasn't been as prominent as Phil Schiller or Craig Federighi, he has left his mark on the company. Cook shared some thoughts on the earnings call.
"Before I hand it over to Luca, with Luca transitioning to a new role with Apple, this will be the final time he's joining our call," Cook said on the call. "I am deeply grateful. In his 10 years in the role, Luca has done truly exceptional work in shaping Apple as we know it today."
"He has helped manage Apple for the long term, thoughtfully and deliberately," continued Cook. "He has helped us enrich the lives of so many around the world, and he has been a leader that people look up to and have learned so much from."
Even though Luca Maestri is stepping down from his role as CFO, he is retaining a high-level position within Apple. He will remain involved as the lead of the Corporate Services teams and report directly to Tim Cook.
His transition follows a similar pattern that's been observed with the past decade of high-profile job changes within Apple. Either these executives are having a tough time leaving the company, or Apple is heavily incentivizing them to stay with these new roles.
Either way, it may be a bit jarring when we tune into the next earnings call and Luca Maestri's voice won't be there to answer inane questions. Kevan Parekh has some big shoes to fill, though he has been at Apple for a decade already himself.

He is smiling in both images - and with good reason. Imagine the last ten years as CFO at Apple.
