In one of the interviews, Mahesh Bhatt talked about Sushmita Sen and Vikram Bhatt's growing romance on the sets of Dastak. In an interview with entertainment news portal Etimes, Mahesh once said that Vikram and Sushmita's romance started in the Seychelles. He called Vikram his right hand and said he used to be at the forefront, doing most of his work. Hence, he interacted a lot with the actress and their romance began.
Initially, Sushmita and Vikram didn't get along well on the sets of Dastak. The actress revealed this on Rendezvous with Simi Garewal. The Main Hoon Na actress said that she thought of Vikram as the 'biggest snob' and accused him of complaining about her to Mahesh Bhatt. Even Vikram stated that he wasn't fond of Sushmita initially and wasn't a fan of her often changing his dialogues.
Sushmita Sen revealed that once she broke her finger on set, she couldn't stand him. It was when the film ended, and she felt like Vikram Bhatt had a personal grudge against him. Eventually, they started talking, became friends, and had a long affair. She called 'it'slow chemistry'. In the same interview, Vikram said, "Not when we started seeing each other but when we started working with each other. Before the chemistry set in, I was married."

About her affair with Vikram Bhatt, Sushmita Sen said, "His wife and he were not living together. I can’t condemn a man or make him feel guilty if he had a bad marriage. I don’t have anything against his ex-wife or his daughter. Some things aren’t meant to be. I don’t feel guilty because I have done something very openly. He was in a divorce when I met him, and I wasn’t going to wait to tell the world that I love him just because he hadn’t gotten through the divorce yet."
