Jaya Bachchan got married to Big B in 1973 and she has been a part of many hit movies in the past. But after her marriage, she decided to stop her film career and focus on her family. She decided to focus on her kids, Shweta and Abhishek and in 1998 she decided to return to work.

Her father, journalist Taroon Coomar Bhaduri wrote about her decision to quit in a piece for the Illustrated Weekly of India. He said that when she decided to quit film they supported her but he did feel that her talent got wasted. He said that she never regretted her decision.
