Tommy Lee Jones, 80, joined Ethan Hawke at Austin’s AFS Cinema on Oct. 7 for the season 2 premiere of The Lowdown, a rare red-carpet outing nearly 3 years after his December 2023 appearance for Finestkind.
Jones plays Lee Raybon Senior, a grifter estranged from his son, Hawke’s citizen journalist Lee Raybon. The FX series gives Jones his first series role in decades, following his work in the 1989 miniseries Lonesome Dove. His recent film roles include Finestkind and The Burial, both released in 2023.
At the Austin event, Jones also posed with Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Killer Mike and series creator Sterlin Harjo. The appearance comes after the death of Jones’s daughter Victoria, 34, in January.
Created by Harjo and set in Tulsa, Oklahoma, The Lowdown debuted in September 2025. Season 2 follows Lee’s investigations into corruption involving the city’s wealthy and powerful, with his own safety at risk.
