Whoopi Goldberg Showed Off Her 100-Pound Weight Loss Alongside Her Daughter After Two Years on Mounjaro.

“I will tell you, I weighed almost 300 pounds when I made Till, and I had taken all those steroids, I was on all this stuff, and one of the things that’s helped me drop the weight is the Mounjaro, that’s what I use,” Goldberg said on “The View” on March 19, 2024, during a discussion of Oprah’s special on weight-loss drugs.

Two years later, the 70-year-old is down about 100 pounds. She’s spent that stretch openly discussing the journey and the prescription drug behind it.

Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection approved in 2022 for type 2 diabetes. It’s related to Ozempic, and both are commonly used for weight loss, but they work differently. Ozempic acts on one hormone (GLP-1) that helps control blood sugar and appetite, while Mounjaro acts on two (GLP-1 and GIP). Targeting two pathways instead of one, Mounjaro has generally produced greater weight loss in clinical trials.

The red carpet moment came Monday night at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater at Lincoln Center, where she turned up for the opening of “The Whoopi Monologues,” a reimagining of her 1984 one-woman Broadway show.

Director Whitney White expanded the stripped-down solo act into a chamber piece for five actresses. Kerry Washington (also a producer on the show), Kara Young, Dominique Fishback, Danielle Pinnock and Kecia Lewis split Goldberg’s original Rolodex of characters, Fontaine, Surfer Girl, the Blonde Girl, the Jamaican Lady and Lurleen among them.

The New York Times called it a Critic’s Pick, and it runs through August 30.

She wore a flowing tan dress layered under a coordinating jacket. Beside her was her 52-year-old daughter, Alexandrea “Alex” Martin Dean, an actress and producer who rarely joins her mother at public events.

Kerry Washington, who plays one of the five actresses splitting Goldberg’s original characters, was among the cast on the carpet, but the photos of Goldberg with her daughter drew the most attention online, along with comments on how much weight she’s lost. Alexandrea Martin is Goldberg’s only child, from her first marriage to British cinematographer Alvin Martin.
