North West, 13, addressed people calling her “demonic” over her style during a TikTok livestream with her mom, Kim Kardashian, this month. Kardashian pointed to North’s black grills and piercings as possible reasons for the label, while North questioned why those choices were being linked to anything demonic.

“Just because I like to dress this way, don’t judge a book by its cover,” North said. Kardashian, 45, backed her daughter: “I don’t think people really get it, but do you care?”

North also explained the all-white outfit she chose for her first headlining performance at Chicago’s Vic Theatre in September. She said she wanted to arrive looking like an angel and told viewers, “I believe in Jesus.”

Kardashian said North’s interest in piercings dates back to pre-K, when she wore fake ones and wanted her septum and eyebrow pierced. North rejected the suggestion that her style came from her parents’ divorce. Kardashian and Kanye West finalized their divorce in 2022.

North’s blue hair, fake tattoos and piercings on her thighs, hands and neck have also drawn scrutiny over the past year. In an August cover interview, she described what she wanted: “All I want is blue hair and piercings.”

Asked about the appeal of piercings, North said, “They just make you your full self.” She also explained that her parents still set limits: “I really want to get my bridge pierced, but I’m not allowed.”
