Why Adam Sandler? He Calls Kelce “A Gentle, Nice Guy” and Once Admitted Taylor Swift Makes Him “A Little Jumpy” Because His Daughters Are Obsessed

Sandler officiated Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding at Madison Square Garden on Friday, July 3, 2026. Swift’s rep confirmed the news in a statement, describing Sandler as a “friend” of the couple. Austin Swift stood as his sister’s “Man of Honor” and Jason Kelce was his brother’s best man. After the “I do’s,” the jumbotrons outside the arena flashed “JUST&T MARRIED!”
The direct bridge was Kelce. The two became friends on the set of Happy Gilmore 2, the Netflix sequel released in July 2025, where the Kansas City Chiefs tight end appears in a cameo. Kelce talked about the experience on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show in January 2025: “Working with Happy Gilmore himself, the Sandman and Happy Productions, it was off the chain.” He added that Sandler “is every bit as cool off the screen as he is on the screen, and that was a dream come true.”
Sandler talked about Kelce in a July 2025 interview with Entertainment Tonight tied to the film. “Travis is such a gentle, nice guy, and funny as hell,” he said. “He’s like the guys I grew up with. When I was with Travis, it reminded me of my buddies in high school and just being able to laugh and say the things you want to say.” In the same interview he called Kelce “a great actor and a great human,” and “a stud.”
The Swift side of the friendship started with Sandler’s daughters, Sadie and Sunny, who have been fans for years. Swift greeted the girls at the October 2023 Los Angeles premiere of her Eras Tour concert film, and Sandler brought it up in the same ET conversation. “Taylor is incredible,” he said. “Taylor is so damn nice to my family and has always been. My kids have met Taylor a bunch of times over the years, and she’s ridiculously nice to them and warm.”
On Conan O’Brien’s podcast in February 2024, Sandler admitted he doesn’t quite play it cool around her. “Just cause I don’t wanna blow it for my kids… I don’t stay as cool as I can,” he said, describing himself as getting “a little jumpy.” He put her scale in his own terms: “People talk about The Beatles of it all and her. I mean, so many smash hits. There’s not a word my kids don’t know.”
\he couple picked a friend over a traditional officiant. Swift’s rep said the ceremony “joined both families together and was officiated by friend Adam Sandler.” Sandler’s most famous on-screen job before Friday was playing wedding singer Robbie Hart in the 1998 film, a coincidence fans clocked instantly.
