Demi Moore and Rob Lowe Have Both Talked About a ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ Sequel, and Lowe Says the Whole Cast Wants to Do It

A St. Elmo’s Fire sequel may finally be moving forward, according to Rob Lowe, who says the cast of the 1985 film wants to reunite — and that they’re expecting a draft of the script in the first week of October.
Speaking on Sunday’s “Watch What Happens Live,” Lowe said the project is “definitely in the works, for sure.” He added that he’d met with Sony, the studio behind the original, though he described the effort as still in its early stages.
The comments build on remarks Demi Moore made in 2024, when she said Sony was involved in sequel talks and searching for a writer.
The original film starred Lowe and Moore alongside Emilio Estevez, Andrew McCarthy, Ally Sheedy and Judd Nelson. Joel Schumacher directed it and co-wrote the screenplay with Carl Kurlander. A separate TV adaptation, announced in 2019, never materialized.
