Cory Wharton and Taylor Selfridge Have Split After 9 Years Together, and She Says She Was Tired of Being Denied Basic Respect

Taylor Selfridge says she was the one who left Cory Wharton, announcing their breakup on Instagram on Oct. 8 with a blunt explanation: “I was sick of not getting basic respect from the person I was with for 9 years and the father of my two children.”

Selfridge, 32, added, “I’m sure everyone could tell the last few years. I deserve more than that and I’ll get it. End of story.” Wharton, 35, confirmed the split in his own Instagram statement and apologized to her.

“I know there were times I could’ve been better, and I’m sorry for the ways I let you down,” he wrote. He said he intends to keep showing up for their daughters while working on himself.

The breakup follows Wharton’s televised flirtation with fellow competitor Izzy Fairthorne during season 42 of The Challenge. In a confessional, he acknowledged his attraction to her and said things with Selfridge hadn’t been going well at home.

After the episode aired in September, Wharton said he’d apologized privately to Selfridge. In a Sept. 3 post on X, he wrote, “It’s been a very long time since I haven’t been proud of who I see on camera, and this is one of those times.”

In another post, he took responsibility for his behavior: “I’m not trying to put the blame on anybody but myself. I’m a big boy. I knew what I was doing.” He described his actions as selfish and said he planned to seek therapy.

Selfridge had acknowledged their relationship troubles in August but declined to discuss the details publicly. Fairthorne later said she and Wharton hadn’t pursued a relationship after filming.

She said she checked in about his daughter, then they “didn’t have contact after that.” She also said her tears over his departure from the show were about his situation at home.

Wharton and Selfridge met in November 2017 while filming MTV’s Ex on the Beach. After an on-and-off beginning, they made their relationship official in 2019 and later appeared on Teen Mom OG.

They share daughters Mila, 6, and Maya, 4. Wharton also shares daughter Ryder, 9, with his ex Cheyenne Floyd.
