Alix Earle Told ‘Interview’ Magazine She’s Never Read a Book

Asked to name the last book she’d read, Alix Earle, 25, told Interview magazine’s editor-in-chief Mel Ottenberg that she’s never read one. She offered a possible exception: “Like, maybe Dr. Seuss.”

The moment came during a rapid-fire Q&A posted to Instagram on Monday, September 28. It’s the kind of throwaway line that would pass unnoticed from most people, but Earle isn’t most people — with a following built almost entirely on being unfiltered, an admission like this reads less like a confession and more like brand consistency.

The reaction split down familiar lines. Some commenters wondered aloud how she’d made it through school without finishing a single book; others praised her for saying the quiet part out loud instead of pretending to keep a tasteful stack of literary fiction on her nightstand.

The books question wasn’t the only one. Ottenberg also asked whether bringing an iced coffee to a job interview was unprofessional. Earle said she didn’t see a problem with it and chalked the whole debate up to “a Gen Z problem” — a small generational shrug that doubled as a mission statement.

Then came the ex. Asked whether she’d ever get back with one, Earle initially said no, before joking that the answer might be the last lie she’d ever tell. It was the most Alix Earle answer possible: deflect, undercut, and leave you not entirely sure where the bit ends and the truth begins.
