A hired band played some of MJ Shannon’s favorite jazz songs at La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla on Sunday, July 26, where Kris Jenner led the family through a three-hour celebration of her mother’s life. The room was decorated with the vibrant flowers MJ loved, and organizers carried out a prepared “Celebration of Life” memory book.
The venue meant everything to her. La Valencia, the 1926 Spanish Colonial landmark known locally as “The Pink Lady,” was where MJ marked birthdays for decades, including her 90th. She’d built her life a few streets away, running the children’s boutique Shannon & Co. for more than 30 years, the shop where a young Kim Kardashian counted money on the floor and learned her first work lessons.
Kim was there Sunday in a white dress, pausing for fan selfies. Travis Barker posed for one too while Kourtney waited in an SUV. Scott Disick came with son Mason, and Khloé Kardashian arrived with Tristan Thompson. Kris’s niece Natalie Zettel, daughter of Kris’s late sister Karen, was among the family as well.
Kylie Jenner with Timothée Chalamet and Kendall Jenner with Jacob Elordi were reported present after flying to San Diego that morning, though they didn’t leave alongside the older sisters.
MJ died July 16 at 91, 10 days before what would have been her 92nd birthday. She’d split her time between Los Angeles and her La Jolla views for years and turned down offers to move in with Kris, holding onto the coast where she raised her daughters.
