“Entourage” Creator Doug Ellin Calls the New Ad Reuniting Jeremy Piven and Adrian Grenier a “Cheap, sh*tty Imitation” of His Show

The three-minute spot dropped September 8 to launch Betr 2.0, the real-money gaming app co-founded by Jake Paul. Piven and Grenier officially play themselves, but the energy is pure Ari and Vince.
It’s the first time Piven and Grenier have shared a screen since the 2015 Entourage movie. Piven crashes a Miami mansion party, introduces himself as “Ted Lass-hole,” hunts for “my pretty boy,” and pitches Grenier on becoming the face of the app.
Ellin says he was flooded with messages asking if he wrote it. On Instagram, he wrote, “Many people worked really hard to make our show as good as it was.” He also took a shot at Piven, claiming he had to beg him to take the original role, that Piven later wanted to distance himself from the show because “he had so much better sh*t going on,” and that he’s back now because he’s getting paid.
A Betr spokesperson told Variety the company wanted “an unexpected cultural moment,” noted the actors appeared as themselves, and said the spot pulled nearly 10 million organic views in under 24 hours. The kicker: “We appreciate Doug watching the ad and helping promote it.”
