A Celebrity on ‘The Traitors’ Accidentally Told Everyone He Was a Traitor

Richard E. Grant had just been selected as a Traitor in the U.K.’s “Celebrity Traitors” premiere when he admitted it to several fellow contestants. Asked about his role, he answered honestly, then added: “What’s the point in being in the game if you’re not?”
Grant and “Love Island” host Maya Jama were the first 2 contestants chosen as Traitors. Before the selection, he’d told host Claudia Winkleman he’d be “utterly ruthless” and wouldn’t feel guilty. The contestants are playing at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands for £100,000 for their chosen charity, with the Faithful trying to identify the Traitors.
Comedian Joe Lycett suggested Grant tell everyone he was a Faithful who’d been joking. “I think you’ve done something that’s never been done in the game,” Lycett said. “It’s a bold strategy.”
Jerry Hall, however, thought his confession was an act. “I’ve known him for over 30 years, and he says and does eccentric things,” she said. “I think he is acting out because he hasn’t been chosen.”
To the cameras, Grant said, “That may have been the biggest mistake I’ve made in my life. I was so thrilled to be chosen that in my excitement I said I was a Traitor. I need to defuse all of the heat coming in my direction.”
Grant made it through the episode. He and Jama then got the opportunity to recruit another Traitor while also eliminating a contestant.
They selected comedian James Acaster and “University Challenge” presenter Amol Rajan to make their cases, and both said they could help divert suspicion from Grant. The episode ended before the decision was revealed.
