Selena’s Brother A.B. Quintanilla Is Suing His Sister Suzette for a 25% Cut of the Profits from the Singer’s Music and Legacy

A.B. says a family agreement made after Selena was murdered in 1995 entitles him to a quarter of the profits from her music, name and business ventures. He claims his sister, who runs the company built around all of it, has been keeping his share.

The petition filed Thursday names Suzette Quintanilla and two company entities, and accuses Suzette of withholding A.B. Quintanilla III’s contractual share of the profits generated by Selena’s “Entertainment Properties.”

A.B. says the arrangement goes back to a 1995 Estate Properties Agreement executed after Yolanda Saldívar shot and killed Selena. According to the petition, the parties to that deal were A.B., Suzette, their mother Marcella Quintanilla and Selena’s husband, Chris Pérez.

Q-Productions was founded by the siblings’ father, Abraham Quintanilla, in the 1990s. A.B. alleges Suzette became CEO and took functional control of the Selena-related business around 2016, running her entertainment affairs, intellectual property, commercial ventures and legacy through the company.

He’s asking for 25% of the net profits he says he’s owed, plus a full accounting going back to January 1, 2016. The suit is filed in the Texas bracket for relief exceeding $1 million, which is a pleading threshold, not a proven amount.
