On The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Zac Affleck told his wife Jen he’d leave her if she took an acting role that involved a love interest. The couple share three children under 5 and have a fourth on the way.

The ultimatum surfaced after Jen revealed she’d auditioned for an acting role and was upset that she didn’t get it. When Zac suggested her emotions might be hormonal, the 27-year-old pushed back in a confessional. “I feel like Zac is not taking these dreams and goals seriously,” she said.

The exchange plays out in episode 5 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 5. Jen has been exploring acting and music since appearing on Dancing with the Stars last year, but those ambitions have repeatedly clashed with her 30-year-old husband’s traditional views.

It isn’t the first collision this season. Zac also objected when Jen said she wanted to appear in a Sports Illustrated photoshoot. She told cameras that his expectations around modesty have made her career decisions difficult, and that his answer to her ambitions always seems to be no.

Jen and Zac married in June 2019 and share three children. In June 2026, they announced they’re expecting their fourth. Their marriage has been tested on the show before, with arguments over Zac’s gambling and over Jen potentially attending a Chippendales show, followed by a period apart during her third pregnancy.

For Jen, the acting fight seemed to crystallize something bigger. “Having this conversation is making me realize I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to go after what I actually want,” she said in a confessional afterward.
