Luke Grimes and Kelly Reilly Have Been Texting “A Lot” About Bringing Kayce and Beth Back Together in a ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff Crossover

The Yellowstone universe may not be done with the Dutton siblings just yet. Luke Grimes and Kelly Reilly want their characters, Kayce and Beth, to reunite across their respective spinoffs — CBS’ Marshals and Paramount+’s Dutton Ranch — and the reasoning is simple: after everything the family has been through, Beth and Kayce’s son, Tate, are the only close relatives Kayce has left.

Grimes, 42, told TV Insider that he and Reilly, 49, have discussed the idea repeatedly. “It’s not out of the question that we might have some sort of crossover at some point,” he said. “Beth’s basically Kayce’s only living family member other than Tate. It would make sense that down the line we’d at least talk.”

According to Grimes, the two actors have “texted about it back and forth a lot” and “talked about how it’d be fun and necessary for our story arcs, however they’re going to end.”

Reilly has been just as vocal. She previously called the absence of a crossover a “missed opportunity,” especially after Kayce’s wife, Monica, died off screen. In her mind, Beth and Rip — played by Cole Hauser — would have attended Monica’s funeral and stayed connected to Kayce through his grief.

“I would absolutely imagine that there’ll be some checking in on her brother, and we just didn’t see it this year,” Reilly told TV Insider. “But we’re both trying to start up these big shows, and I think we can see where there are gaps, and we see where things need to be fixed.”

For now, fans can catch both stars in their new corners of the franchise. Marshals season 2 premieres Sunday, Oct. 4, at 9 p.m. ET on CBS, while Dutton Ranch season 1 — which follows Beth and Rip after their move from Montana to Texas — is streaming on Paramount+, with a second season also planned.
