Warner Bros. has officially expanded its cinematic universe with the casting of Anya Taylor-Joy in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. The Furiosa and Dune actress is set to join the highly anticipated fantasy feature, which brings the award-winning franchise back to the big screen under the direction of Andy Serkis.
Taylor-Joy will step into the role of Seren, a lethal and trusted Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm who serves under King Thranduil—with Lee Pace confirmed to reprise his original elven ruler role. The production, which recently commenced principal photography on location in New Zealand, sees director Andy Serkis pull double duty as he returns to star as the titular Gollum alongside original trilogy veterans Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey and Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins.
The blockbuster project also introduces an expansive slate of new faces to the Middle-earth lore. Academy Award winner Kate Winslet joins the ensemble as Marigol, the matriarch of a Stoor settlement, while Jamie Dornan is tapped to portray Strider, taking over the iconic Aragorn role. Additionally, breakout star Leo Woodall rounds out the newly announced cast additions as Halvard.
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is officially scheduled to open in theaters worldwide on December 17, 2027.
