Artisans de Genève has unveiled “Val Viola,” a bespoke timepiece personalization crafted for collector Mr. A.N.I., inspired by the shifting hues of an untouched alpine lake at dusk. Based on a client’s personal Rolex Submariner (Ref. 116610), the bespoke project takes inspiration from the peaceful landscapes and sharp high-alpine contrasts of Val Viola, a remote valley nestled in the Rhaetian Alps.
To recreate the memory of waters transitioning between turquoise, violet, and green under evening light, the workshop turned to traditional hand-guilloché. The centerpiece of the watch is a custom dial meticulously engraved by hand with a precise, relief-cut geometric motif that continuously transforms in tone and depth as light moves across its surface.
Balancing the vibrant dial, the exterior architecture relies on subtle material contrast. The watch features a brushed grey ceramic bezel insert, chosen for its scratch-resistant properties and matte finish; rather than reflecting light, the ceramic absorbs it, framing the dial and allowing its shimmering guilloché reflections to take center stage. Adding poetic depth, a moonphase complication is visible through a clean aperture cut into the lower dial. Crafted from a glittering blue aventurine disc inset with a luminous mother-of-pearl moon, the complication echoes the alpine night sky while extending the timepiece’s interplay of texture, light and natural landscape aesthetics.
