GEEKS RULE has released a limited long-sleeve edition of its collaboration T-shirt with the TV anime The Ghost in the Shell, reworking a design that drew immediate buzz when it first launched. The new version keeps the original front and back artwork and adds an exclusive sleeve graphic, turning it into a one-time special edition.
The release builds on one of the most influential franchises in anime and cyberpunk. Ghost in the Shell began as Shirow Masamune’s manga, first serialized by Kodansha in 1989, and went on to shape global sci-fi through Mamoru Oshii’s 1995 film and the Stand Alone Complex TV series. The latest TV anime adaptation, directed by Mokochan, is produced by Science SARU.
The front of the shirt uses the series’ key visual of Major Motoko Kusanagi seated on top of a Fuchikoma, the spider-like think tank. Rendered in bold reds and cool blues, the artwork captures the Major in her blue tactical suit and visor, with “THE GHOST IN THE SHELL” lettering underneath. The Fuchikoma itself comes straight from Masamune’s original manga and served as the predecessor to the Stand Alone Complex series’ better-known Tachikoma.
The back features an icon designed by Hajime Sorayama, set as glowing chrome lettering inside a triangle outline. Sorayama is best known for his hyperreal chrome robot illustrations, which have appeared on everything from album art to luxury fashion collaborations. For this edition, “DOVER STREET MARKET GINZA” is printed in bold white type down one sleeve, the detail that separates it from the earlier short-sleeve T-shirt. The shirt is silkscreen-printed on a black body and comes in sizes M through XXL.
The GEEKS RULE x The Ghost in the Shell long-sleeve T-shirt drops October 24 from 11 a.m. only at Dover Street Market Ginza’s Open House event, a recurring gathering of designers and artists from Japan and abroad. Director Mokochan will also host a signing on October 23 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Rose Bakery on the store’s seventh floor. Entry requires advance registration through Peatix and closes once spots are filled. Attendees can buy the shirt early on the sixth floor, and each person may have one item signed, either the T-shirt or an illustration sheet handed out at the event.
