Universal Pictures and director Christopher Nolan have reached a historic milestone with The Odyssey, officially making it the highest-grossing film in the studio’s 114-year history. Starring Matt Damon, the epic has grossed $601.2 million USD domestically and $1.083 billion USD internationally, bringing its worldwide box office total to $1.68 billion USD.

Produced by Emma Thomas and Nolan via their Syncopy banner alongside executive producer Thomas Hayslip, the film reclaimed the top box office spot in its eighth weekend in theaters. The project marks the largest opening of Nolan’s career, surpassing The Dark Knight Rises to become his highest-grossing movie to date. NBCUniversal Entertainment chairman Donna Langley lauded the release as an ambitious generational event for cinema.
