Paramount Pictures has officially greenlit a sequel to World War Z, with Brad Pitt returning to star. The project will be directed by Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front, Conclave) based on a script written by Dennis Kelly.

Plot details surrounding the follow-up remain strictly under wraps. The original 2013 film—adapted from Max Brooks’ 2006 novel World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War and directed by Marc Forster—grossed over $540 million globally as Pitt played former United Nations investigator Gerry Lane battling a rampant global zombie pandemic. Paramount previously announced active development on a continuation at CinemaCon, reviving momentum after earlier attempts, including a version helmed by David Fincher, were scrapped.

Pitt will produce the feature alongside Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner under their Plan B Entertainment banner, while Berger serves as executive producer. The project marks a quick reunion for Pitt and Berger, who recently wrapped production on A24’s upcoming feature The Riders.
