Multiple future titles will definitively wrap up the iconic survival horror franchise arcs.

Resident Evil may finally have an endgame in sight — at least for the overarching story Capcom has been building across its modern games. Speaking in an interview originally published by Yahoo Japan, franchise executive producer Jun Takeuchi revealed that the current narrative could reach its conclusion within the next decade.

Takeuchi explained that Capcom began developing a 10-year strategy while planning 2019’s Resident Evil 2 remake, with the order of subsequent remakes and mainline entries forming part of a broader direction for the series. With Resident Evil Requiem arriving earlier this year, Takeuchi said he considers that first decade-long phase effectively complete, adding that he expects the larger storyline to reach its conclusion during the next 10 years. His comments refer specifically to the ongoing narrative rather than suggesting Capcom intends to retire the Resident Evil franchise altogether.

That conclusion is unlikely to arrive through a single final game. Takeuchi confirmed that Capcom has “multiple titles” planned before reaching that point, although he stopped short of revealing how many or what shape the remaining story will take. The comments add further context to the company’s modern approach to Resident Evil, which has developed along parallel tracks through new numbered installments and remakes of earlier entries, with Takeuchi noting that the series’ wider narrative was never completely mapped out from the beginning but instead expanded with each release.

Following the resurgence that began with 2017’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Capcom has alternated between new chapters and reinterpretations of its back catalog, most recently culminating in Requiem. The next confirmed project is Resident Evil: Code Veronica, a remake of Code: Veronica currently scheduled for 2027, suggesting there remains plenty of ground to cover before the franchise’s present storyline reaches its eventual endpoint.
