TSTS has made a Wizard of Oz tote bag, and the construction is more involved than the format suggests. The bag starts from a canvas body carrying a special print, then adds a second pass of rhinestones set over the printed surface, a stacking technique that gives the graphic physical relief rather than leaving it flat. The effect the brand is chasing is the red glint of the film’s magic shoes.
The tote is a special item produced for the occasion rather than a general release, and it is being made in limited numbers. It belongs to a wider Wizard of Oz collaboration series that TSTS has developed into “The Saxe Blue Gingham,” the brand’s FW26 collection, which puts the film’s iconography into the label’s own vocabulary.
That vocabulary is gingham. The check is TSTS’s brand signature, and pieces built on it are being carried alongside the collaboration items, which places the Oz material and the house pattern in the same room for the first time. The pairing also explains the collection’s name, with the saxe blue reading as a color direction rather than a graphic one.
The bag itself is the most technically involved piece in the mix. Canvas is a deliberately plain base, and the decision to print it first and then bead over the print means the shine sits proud of the fabric rather than being simulated in ink.
