Film studio Universal Pictures has announced that Christopher Nolan‘s historical epic The Odyssey will return to theaters nationwide for an expansive theatrical re-release. Starting December 11, the studio will bring the blockbuster back to more than 1,000 screens across the United States and Canada in all formats, highlighted by screenings in IMAX and the coveted IMAX 70mm format.

Originally released on July 17, the three-hour historical drama grossed $626 million USD domestically and $1.8 billion USD worldwide, solidifying its place as both Universal’s and Nolan’s highest-grossing film to date and the second-highest grossing cinematic release of 2026 behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Groundbreaking in its technical execution, the feature stands as the first movie filmed entirely with Imax cameras, generating $550 million USD across IMAX screens globally and setting records for both the highest-grossing IMAX title of all time and the biggest domestic opening in IMAX 70mm history.

Based on the ancient Greek epic poem, the narrative chronicles King Odysseus of Ithaca’s treacherous journey home following victory in the Trojan War. Matt Damon leads the ensemble as Odysseus alongside Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal, positioning the film as a prime frontrunner ahead of awards season.

The Odyssey returns to over 1,000 theaters across the U.S. and Canada in all formats, including IMAX 70mm, starting December 11.
