· Rolling Stone

Two days before the Pharrell Williams biopic Piece by Piece hits theaters, Focus Features has shared one last trailer for the animated film that tells the musical hyphenate’s life story via Legos.

As the new trailer reveals, among the other artists and collaborators who also get Lego-fied in Piece by Piece are Kendrick Lamar, Gwen Stefani, Daft Punk, Snoop Dogg, Pusha T, Busta Rhymes, Timbaland and more.

“One day you wake up and realize that this was all designed,” Williams says in voiceover in the trailer, “and there’s potential for us to change it.”

In Rolling Stone’s review of the unique biopic, David Fear wrote, “Whether this concept of turning Williams’ life story into a literal toy story was the move or not is debatable; we’d place it right at the midpoint between gimmick and stroke of genius. But you can’t accuse Piece by Piece of looking like another straight-off-the-assembly-line music doc, even if it hits all the typical beats of one. And given the way Williams describes his creative process, it’s an ideal way to translate what’s going on in his head to what you see onscreen.”

In addition to starring in a Lego-styled biopic, Williams has also expanded his repertoire to include Lego designer, as the singer/producer/fashion designer has also launched his own line of Lego sets.
