Glen Powell Offers Lookalike Contest Winner a Movie Cameo — for Someone in Their Family

The lookalike contest craze swept through Austin, Texas, this weekend, where a bunch of (ostensibly) chill, charming, and handsome dudes gathered to prove they were the doppelgänger of the (genuinely) most chill, charming, and handsome dude out there right now: Glen Powell. 

The winner was set to take home $5, a cowboy hat, and one year of free queso from the taco chain Torchy’s. Not a bad haul for the decisively low-stakes competition — until Powell himself upped the ante. The Twisters star, who’s currently filming Edgar Wright’s new movie The Running Man in the U.K., sent in a video for the contest, offering the winner a cameo in one of his next movies — actually, not for the winner themselves, but for any member of their family. 

As Powell explained in the clip, “Now, you may know that my parents make a cameo in every movie I make. But today, the winner of the Glen Powell Lookalike Contest wins their parents — or any family member of their choice — a cameo in my next movie. I am completely serious. This is a cash-value prize of $6 billion.”

(Powell’s whole video is, unsurprisingly, worth the watch. It took him nearly a full minute to get to the actual prize part, with the actor using that long intro to do some bits. First, he welcomed folks to the “Justin Hartley Lookalike Contest” and then quipped, “I’ve assembled you here today at Auditorium Shores for an important mission: I want to pull off a heist. And we don’t need masks, because we all have the same face. It’s the perfect crime. They can’t get all of us, because we are one. A criminal” — wait for it — “Glen-terprise.”)

Per Fox 7 in Austin, the lookalike contest attracted hundreds of onlookers. While Powell wasn’t there in person, his mom—who was there to help judge—kept the actor in the loop on FaceTime the whole time. Ultimately, the grand prize went to contestant number 4, a physician’s assistant named Maxwell Braunstein. He said he’s been hearing he looks like Powell for so long that he was confident enough to call his shot. 

“I did tell people I was going to win,” he said. Braunstein also apparently got to speak briefly with Powell over FaceTime, telling him, “Blessed that your mother thinks I’m anything like ya.”
