Tom Morello Announces Power to the People Festival With Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, More
· Rolling StoneBruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Joan Baez, and more artists and activist are among the star-studded lineup for Tom Morello’s Power to the People Festival. The one-day event takes place on Oct. 3 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.
Morello announced the festival while on tour with Springsteen during their stop at Nationals Park last night.
Curated by Morello, who is also performing, the fest’s lineup of artists and activists also features Dave Matthews, Brittany Howard, Dropkick Murphys, Jack Black (featuring Roman Morello, Revel Ian, Yoyoka Soma and Hugo Weiss), Serj Tankian, Cypress Hill, Killer Mike, grandson, Taylor Momsen, Matt Cameron, and the Linda Lindas, alongside artwork and a DJ set by Shepard Fairey. According to a press release, the fest will include “intimate, collaborative, and special performances” across two stages. Nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, and more will appear on the grounds at the fest’s Freedom Village, an area dedicated to civic engagement, grassroots organizing, education, mutual aid, and social impact initiatives. A portion of proceeds from all ticket sales alongside 100 percent of the net proceeds from VIP tickets will benefit VoteRiders, which is a pro-democracy, pro-voter organization, and HeadCount, who will be at the fest help attendees register to vote.
“The Power to the People festival is about freedom, justice, equality and rock & roll,” Morello said in a statement. “It’s about the power everyday human beings have when they come together through music, art, community, and action. We’re honored to bring this incredible lineup to the DC area for a day that celebrates the spirit of activism, creativity, and hope.”
